EAST ROUNTON ROUNTON GRANGE NZ 40 SW 8/20 Lodge and gateway with screen walls to north 23.6.66 east of Rounton Grange - II* Lodge and entrance archway with screen walls. 1909 by George Jack for Sir Hugh Bell, dated over arch. Ashlar; pantiles and stone flags to roofs. Romantic mixture of styles. Low, 2-centred arch through narrow range with pseudo- machicolated eaves and small central gable with escutcheon. Lean-to behind buttressed octagonal chimney at left. Curved screen wall, with stepped, gabled coping, runs left to octagonal pier with ball finial. To right of arch a very small window in pointed recess; then a linking bay, with small window, to 2-storey lodge with large shafted and corniced chimney-stack in left end. Swept roof has curved gable copings and ball finials. Irregular 3-bay road front has leaded casements. (The park front has segment-headed sashes). A low, curved one-storey wing sweeps forward to a small octagonal pavilion with large, projecting octagonal chimney-stacks.
