Details

GODALMING BRIGHTON ROAD SU 9743 SW (west side), Crownpits 15/32 Nos 78-84 (even) GV II

Terrace of 4 houses. Dated 1883, for Ellis Duncombe Gosling of Busbridge Hall; altered late C20. Bargate rubblestone to ground floor; timber frame with plastered panels above. Plain tile roof. 1½ storeys; 7 irregular bays. Symmetrical facade with jettied first floor; bays 2 and 6 projecting further and gabled; central bay with gabled dormer and bays 3 and 5 with hipped dormers. Outer bays are recessed, each having a board door with 3 glazed panes within pent-roofed porch (Nos 78 and 84). Similar, paired, doors in internal porches to centre (Nos 80 and 82). Four ground-floor windows - projecting, 4-light, wooden mullion and transomed windows with cornices. First floor: similar corbelled bay windows with hipped roofs to bays 2 and 6 with small leaded windows to gables above; smaller 2-light windows to bays 3-5, paired at centre (those to No 80 now with late C20 pivoting windows) and with date, initials, and scroll and floral plaster decoration below. Decorative framing to gables and cusped bargeboards with pendant ball finials. Large, multiple-flue cross-ridge stacks to bays 3 and 5, of brick with stone bases. Rear: verandah supported on wooden posts; half-hipped attic dormers with 2-light casements. Returns: small 2-light gable window under bracketed, tiled roof.
