Details

GODALMING CHURCH STREET SU 9643 NE (west side) 12/51 No 3 (MGM) 23.2.70 GV II

House now office. Late C16-early C17, altered. Timber frame with rendered wattle and daub infill; plain tile roof. 3 storeys with cellar; 1 x 3 bays, gable-end on. Ground floor underbuilt, with C20 half-glazed door in reveal on left and C20 3-light, transomed, leaded window. First and second floors jettied, having large-panelled timbering with sinuous braces and a 3-light leaded window to each floor. Hipped roof with brick stack to right side. Rear: tile hung; attached C20 single-storey wing not of special interest. Interior: arched braces; old joists and floor boards; brick steps and walls to cellar; wooden winder stair against right-hand wall rising from ground floor to second floor; mortices indicate position of former partition walls, on ground floor between 2 front bays and rear bay, on second floor between all 3 bays; the ground-floor front room had a fireplace on right side wall, the rear room a a window with diamond-set mullions on the left side wall; on second floor, central bay had a ladder hole (for access to roof). In roof, queen-strut trusses, rear truss with collar; through purlins; curved wind braces old rafters.
