ABINGER C.P WALLISWOOD TO FOREST TQ 14 SW Green Road, Forest Green 6/80 Tillies Cottage II

Cottage. Late C16, with Cl7 and C18 additions and alterations; further alterations C19 and C1985 (when restored). Timber frame with brick nogging; roof of Horsham slabs and plain tiles. 2 storeys. Originally 3 bays, the left bay a narrow smoke bay; with 1-bay C17 addition under pent roof to left and C17 stack added to rear of central bay and later enclosed within C18 rear outshut addition. C20 brick plinth; nibble plinth and sole plate surviving on right framing exposed, 2 of the wall posts having arched tension braces to mid rail; panels formerly wattle and daub, now with brick nogging (on 1st floor reusing old brick). Old board door to right of centre in 1985 open gabled porch. 3 windows and 4 above, all casements with leaded lights, those to ground floor left and 1st floor right retaining original central frames and the latter with some old glass quarries. Roof of Horsham slabs with brick stack to rear to left of centre. Rear: outshut of poor-quality timber frame with brick nogging of various periods; stack has offsets; roof mostly tiled. Right return: of C18 brickwork in Flemish bond having plinth and tile-hung gable. Left return: addition has an original 2-light leaded casement window with stanchions and saddle bars; pent~roof and gable of main range tile hung with decorative bands (C1985). Interior: timber. frame exposed with ceiling joists and partition walls; cross-beam between right hand bays has mortices in soffit indicating position of former partition wall. C17 chimney has inglenook with lambs tongue stops to chamfered bressumer, spit racks, side benches, salt cupboard and bread oven (now cupboard); old wooden stairs to front of former smoke bay with board doors to cupboard below and room in addition. 1st floor: board doors; wide oak boards to central room and simple fireplace. Roof: sooted timbers reused from earlier open-hall house; queen post roof trusses and coupled rafters.

Cottage. C17. Timber framed, exposed with C2O brick and render infilling, Horsham slab roof. Originally an end chimney house, extended to left. Two storeys, with two large and two small framed bays. Stack to left of centre on rear. Four first floor casement windows. Three windows on ground floor. Door to right of centre in open gabled porch. Pentice extension across rear.
