1852. Architect: William Burn. A large somewhat rambling mansion in Jacobean
style. Ashlar faced with slate roofs and stone stacks; 2 storeys. Impressive entrance
facade to north is of 9 bays with central projecting porch bay, ogival angle pinnacles,
clock, semi-circular headed doorway, and porte-cochére; shaped gables to right
and left; projecting one storey bay on left-hand side with curved screen wall forming
link to good conservatory added by Stevens and Robinson, 1864. The interior, which
is of like style, has pillared entrance hall with monumental divided staircase,
and good ceilings in the state rooms.
