SUTTON UPON TERN C.P. SANDY LANE (north-east SJ 63 SE side) 3/125 Pell Wall Old Lodge 20.8.71 (Formerly listed as listed as- Lodge to south-west of Pell Wall Hall)

Entrance lodge. Circa 1822-8, by Sir John Soane. Late C20 additions at rear. Red brick and hipped graded slate roof with lead flat. 1 x 3 bays. One storey. Plinth, brick pilaster strips, recessed frieze band, and wide eaves. Central grey sandstone ashlar stack consisting of 2 square shafts with recessed and tapered chimneypots. 3-bay front; tripartite glazing bar sashes with stone cills and wooden lintels. Blocked central doorway with wooden lintel. Tripartite sashes to returns too. Present entrance in C20 addition at rear. Interior not inspected. This was formerly the back lodge to Pell Wall (q.v.).
