Details
KILBURN HIGH AND LOW LOW KILBURN SE 5179 (east side) 8/24 Barns attached to Kilburn Hall on north 1.5.52 (formerly listed as Barns adjoining Kilburn Hall) GV II Former wing to Kilburn Hall (qv), now outbuilding, and attached barn. Wing mid-late C17, barn late C18-early C19. Coursed rubble and coursed square stone; pantile and stone slate roofs. T-shaped plan with 2-bay barn projecting on left from 2- storey wing gable-end to road. Wing: gable has quoins; central chamfered quoined triangular-headed doorway with C20 board door and chamfered. 2-light mullion window set above deep lintel; inserted window on left; on first floor a blocked 1-light window to left and a 3-light window to right, both chamfered mullioned; pantile roof; inserted doorway at front of left return and a chamfered light at rear. Barn: inserted double-doors under wood lintel on left; on right, quoined cart archway with keyed elliptical arch and old board and panelled doors; stone slate roof. The wing is joined to Kilburn Hall by a narrow bay with chamfered plinth and inserted C20 window. Rear: wing: later stone stair up to inserted first floor doorway masks central ground-floor doorway which has a double-chamfered light to right, 3 chamfered,windows above on first floor and another in gable, the 2 above door broken into by the inserted doorway. Barn: opposing cart archway. Interior: wing retains some wide floorboards and has four C19 collared principal rafter roof trusses.
