LEATHERHEAD DOWNS LANE TQ/15/NE (west side) 3/132
2.4.70 Battleborough and Stable Lodge
GV II
Coach-house to Vale Lodge, now 2 dwellings. Late C18, remodelled and enlarged. White-painted brick, and some flint, slate roof. Long rectangular plan, with short addition at west end. Two storeys and 9+1 bays, formerly symmetrical; the 3-bay pedimented centre, which breaks forwards slightly, has some patched brickwork suggesting that there were formerly 2 basket-arched wagon entrances, but now has 3 segmental-headed windows on each floor, remains of 3 lunettes above those at 1st floor, a fluted frieze with rosette roundels, and a simple pediment containing a blocked or blind oeil-de-boeuf; the outer ranges have segmental- headed casements on both floors and inserted doorways next to the centre. (One- bay addition in matching style at west end not of special interest.) The rear wall, of flint at ground floor and brick above, has altered fenestration, and an oeil-de-boeuf in the centre. Interior altered.
