Details

KEPWICK MAIN STREET SE 49 SE (NORTH SIDE) 2/22 HOLLY HOUSE and attached front wall GV II House and attached front wall. Dated 1720 with later additions. Coursed squared stone; pantile roof. T-shaped plan. 2 Storeys, 2 bays with wing added to rear left and added cell on left which has rear outshut. Earlier range (on right): stone is herringbone-tooled; two 16-pane sashes in flush wood architraves to each floor and a small fire window to left on ground floor all with herringbone-tooled ashlar lintels, the sashes with projecting ashlar cills; shaped kneelers; raised verges with ashlar coping; ashlar end stacks, that to left shouldered, that to right with table, cornice and incised date. Added cell on left, probably early C19 of smaller stones: quoins on left; small 4-pane sash to left of C20 glazed door with a single 4-pane sash above, lintels as before, lst-floor window with projecting cill; eaves band; shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to left gable. Rear: C19 wing has quoins to ground floor, two Cl9 lst-floor windows, shaped kneelers, ashlar coping and stacks . Wall attached to front, approx. 1 metre high, has flat ashlar coping and returns to house, ramped up at each end and with break for gateway.
