Public library. Dated 1881. By John Knight. Gault brick, stone dressings; low slate roof with tall slated pavilion roof to corner. Prominent corner site with corner entrance at base of low tower. Victorian eclectric manner. To High Road Leyton: 3 storeys, 5 bays, with lower 2 storey bay to right with further entrance. Corinthian pilastered pedimented doorways. Square-headed artchitraved windows, pedimented to ground floor with incised decoration to lintels. Sashes, plate-glass. Cornices between storeys; main console cornice above second floor. Return elevation to Ruckholt Road with similar decorative treatment but irregular window pattern. Decorative iron-cresting to roofs. Forms part of Leyton Town Hall complex. Included for group value.
