Hawnby House
II
House. 1733, refronted and extended 1793 with C19 additions to rear.
Sandstone ashlar with chisel tooling, pantile roof to main section, Welsh
slates to right end addition. 2-cell central staircase hallway entry with
addition to right and parallel service wing to rear. 2 storeys, 3 first
floor windows to main section, one to addition. 6-fielded-panel door with
overlight flanked by C19 canted bay windows with an unequal 6-pane sash to
extension. First floor: unequal 6-pane sash with 4-pane sash to extension.
Swept roof with gable coping, shaped kneelers and banded end stacks to main
section. Tall banded end stack to right gable end. Interior: 6-fielded-
panel doors to main rooms. One 5-fielded-panel door hung on H-L hinges to
half-landing probably dates to 1733. The house was formerly the Rectory and
is well-documented in Glebe Terriers.
