7.9.51 Foxglove Cottage

GV II

Cottage. Probably later C17; enlarged and altered. White-painted roughcast, probably on brick, red tile roof, brick chimney stack. Two-unit plan with lean-to additionsat left end and rear, small set-back wing added at right-hand end. One- and-a-half storeys, formerly symmetrical; plinth, 1st floor band; central doorway with C19 glazed and panelled door under pitched canopy; a 2-light casement to the left and an inserted door replacing a former window to the right; central dormer breakng the eaves, with 2-light casement. The roof has a band of fish- scale tiles, and a large external chimney stack at the left gable, surrounded by the lean-to, which has a door and a single-light window; all these windows have glazing bars. Right-hand gable wall has an added 2-storey bay window. Rear has catslide roof with dormer window to 1st bay. Interior: timber-framed lateral partition; 1st bay has chamfered lateral beam with cyma stops, and rebuilt inglenook fireplace; 2nd bay has exposed joists; wallplates visible at 1st floor.
