PLOMPTON HALL
Wall between Plompton Hall Stables and Farmhouse

GV
II

Wall. c1760. Probably part of stables scheme by John Carr for Daniel
Lascelles. Ashlar. Approximately 2.5 metres high and 30 metres long.
Slight plinth, with pier at north end and 6 plain pilasters. Deep cornice
and ball finial to pier, flat coping to wall. Doorway to right of pier has
plank door and keyed lintel. Southern stretch of walling broken through to
allow farm machinery access to west end of stable-block barn (q.v.). Pier
formerly attached to south end of wall separately listed. A corresponding
stretch of walling at the south end of the west (entrance) range of Plompton
Hall stables also separately listed. The surviving lengths of wall suggest
that the main approach to the stables, from the west, was flanked by high
walls with piers and probably ball finials above the pilasters.
