GV II

Almshouse pair. Circa 1912. Probably by Sir Reginald Blomfield. Red brick with hipped, plain tiled roof and two small stacks at each end of the ridge. Single storey with 6 irregular bays across. 2 oculi to centre flanked by casement wi dows and segment headed arches to entrance bays in outer bays. Wall surface breaks forward in centre and window bays. Whiteley Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading architects of the day. PEVSNER: BUILDINGS OF ENGLAND, SURREY (1971) pp520-1.
