SK69SE BAWTRY TICKHILL ROAD (south side) 10/41 Masonic Hall (formerly 30th November 1966 listed as Chapel of the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene and as being in the parish of Harworth, Nottinghamshire) GV II Chapel now masonic hall. C15 origin; rebuilt 1839 for patron Edward Harwood Greaves of Hesley Hall. Cement rendered, Welsh slate roof. Combined nave and chancel; 4 bays. Chamfered plinth. Entrance to bay 4 of north side has nail-studded door in double-chamfered, pointed-arched surround with hoodmould; architraved panel over door with scroll inscribed 'Except the Lord/build the House/they labour in vain/that build it/ Psalm CXXVII.VI'. Other bays have tall lancet windows with hoodmoulds. Corbelled kneelers and ashlar gable copings with east cross and ashlar west bellcote (without bell). West end has 2 lancets with hoodmoulds; south windows are without hoodmoulds. East end: 3-light window with cusped ogee lights beneath transom and panel tracery over, hoodmould; gable vesica; to left of the east window a re-used C15 image niche with moulded sill, quadrant-moulded jambs and crocketed and castellated canopy with weathered head carvings. Interior: west balcony; original fittings removed.
