Details
STAINBOROUGH WENTWORTH CASTLE SE3OSW 1/47 Corinthian Temple 18.3.68 GV II Garden temple. 1766 for the Second Earl of Strafford, restored 1976. Ashlar sandstone, stone slate roof. Small prostyle temple with 4 Corinthian columns set on 3-step stylobate; full entablature beneath hipped roof. Rear wall with each return having an arched recess with impost band, rectangular recess over. Overlooks the south lawn of Wentworth Castle used for playing croquet. Columns carved by John Platt of Rotherham. Country Life, 'Wentworth Castle II', Oct 25th, 1924, p64 (plate).
