9/44 Barn and cottage at Fair Flats Farm 25.4.69 approximately 5 metres to west of house.

Wrongly shown as New Lathes on O.S. map. Barn and cottage. Probably C17. Internal timber framing, gritstone rubble, C20 cement-tiled roof. 5 (internal) bays with partial aisle to front of bay 2 and outshut to rear of bay 5 at the uphill end. Partly single and partly two-storey. Quoins. Boarded door at left end has quoined reveals and deep lintel, to its right a stone-roofed lean-to adjoins the left return of the aisle. Central cart entrance to right of aisle has C20 part-boarded opening and inserted garage door. An inserted segmental archway to right with C20 casement over. The uphill bay retains the remains of a cottage with blocked doorway to right under large chamfered lintel, a former 3-light chamfered mullion window to its left now with C20 wood casement. Inserted doorway to left. Remains of a double-chamfered mullion window to first floor. Moulded kneelers and gable copings to left end. Left return : appears rebuilt. Window to ground floor cowhouse; another to loft. Interior of collage retains bressumer beam with arched doorhead to right and heck wall to left, 3 spine beams. Barn retains 2 bays of a post and truss building with 6 wall posts, braces and principal rafter trusses, a further two wall posts possibly exist in the adjacent uphill bay.
