12/87 Fountain approx. 70m. E of E front of Drayton House

GV II

Fountain. c.1846 by W.E. Nesfield for William and Caroline Stopford-Sackville. Large ashlar urn, on circular plinth, with lead branched sprinkler rising from centre. Originally part of parterre recreated by Nesfield mid C19. Located on main east/west axis of east front of Drayton House (q.v.). (Gardens included in HBMCE Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I. Cornforth, J., Country Life, 20th May, 1965, p,1216; Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p,189; Jackson-Stops G, Drayton House, 1978).
