ALBOURNE TRUSLER'S LANE 1. 5405 Albourne Place, including the former Stables now part of the house TQ 21 NE 19/148 II*

2. Large L-shaped mansion of which the interior is partly C16-early C17, but the exterior was rebuilt in the mid C17 by John Juxon, brother of william Juxon Archbishop of Canterbury, 2 south 7 west. Red brick, long and short brick quoins. Pilasters flank each west bay. Slate roof. Caaement windows with stone mullions and transoms, and also architraves over those on ground floor. Rusticated brick doorway in the east front with high rectangular fanlight divided into 2 sections by a wooden mullion, and fine door of 14 fielded panels. Good staircase and panelling. Archbishop Juxon was in refuge here during part of the Commonwealth, and the house contains a hiding-place, recently discovered. The east or office wing of the house forms a right angle with the main block. 2 s. 3 w. It is jointed to the Stables (now a dwelling) by a flanking wall with a moulded and panelled door. The Stables are a similar bdg. of 2 s. and 3 w. with roof partly of Horsham slabs and partly of tiles. The interior of the Stables and offices is partly C15.
