6/16 Moat Farmhouse
II
House. C15, with alterations of late C17 (T.1688 S., carved on fireplace lintel). 3-cell open hall house, one-and-a-half storeys and attics. Timber-framed and rendered, weatherboarding to gable. Pantiled roof with monopitch casement dormers and axial chimney of red brick with two C20 square diagonally-set flues on a rendered base. C20 casements with leaded lights. Blocked lobby entrance doorway with canopy on brackets. The two- bay open hall has a central truss with strongly cambered arch- braced tie-beam. A diamond mullioned window at the right-hand end under the formerly-hipped roof. At the left-hand end irregular unchamfered lodged floorjoists and formerly half-hipped gable, possibly the parlour end. The 2-flue chimney probably inserted c.1688 (date carved on lintel of parlour fireplace), and at same time 1st floor inserted into open hall.
