Details

THORNE KING STREET SE 6813 (SE 61 SE) (north side) 15/101 Nos 44A and 44 B 24.11.66 II House now 2 dwellings. c1800 with later addition. Stuccoed red brick, Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 3 bays; narrow, 2-storey bay added on left. External stone steps to central part-glazed door with stained-glass fanlight in pedimented wooden doorcase. Flanking bow windows to outer bays have curved sashes with glazing bars flanked by 8-pane sashes with fluted wooden mullions between. 1st floor: moulded stone sills to boxed sashes with glazing bars. 2nd floor: similar sills to short 6-pane sashes, bay 1 window with later sash. Moulded cornice beneath coped parapet which steps up at each end. Brick end stacks. Later bay on left has C20 door (to No 44B) on right of small window and window over. Shaped kneelers to rear of the main range, Once the house of the Darley family formerly owners of Thorne's brewery.
