SK48NE WHISTON MORTHEN HALL LANE (north side) 8/105 Oak Cottage (formerly listed as Barn and Cottage 29.3.68 adjacent to Morthen Hall on S.W.) GV II Barn and cottage now house. Early C19, altered. Deeply-coursed, squared rubble sandstone, renewed pantile roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays. Quoinstrip to left end. C20 casements with leaded lights. Bay 2 has C20 door in added stone porch flanked by single-light windows. Left end bay has 4-light window within infilled segmental-arched opening. Bay 4 has quoined, segmental archway now with garage doors; 3-light window to left, renewed 2-light mullioned window with dripstone to right. 1st floor: 3-light casement to each bay. Kneelers and square-cut gable copings. Stack at eaves to right of bay 4, ridge stack to right of bay 1. Left return: plinth, quoinstrips. Ground floor has C20 bay window flanked by small oculi. Round-arched recess to 1st floor has moulded sill and flanking oculi. Eaves band. Included for group value.
