Micklethwaite Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Late C18 altered and with later additions. Brindled brick in English garden wall bond, pantile roof. Two storeys with attics, three windows to first floor; lower two-storey addition set back on right with one-storey lean-to against its front wall. Cemented plinth. Steps to position of former central doorway now a window with C20 casement, projecting sill and cemented surround masking brick arch with projecting keystone; flanking windows in same style.
First floor: band, windows as ground floor. Stone gutter brackets; shaped kneelers and ashlar gable copings; brick end stack on right heightened in later brickwork. Rear: blocked, segmentally-arched doorway to left of centre with, to right, a basement window and a round-arched stair window having old casement with glazing bars; other original openings, that to first-floor left with an old two-light horizontally-sliding sash. Left return; six-panel door with three-pane overlight on left of casement; first-floor band and eaves band beneath attic casement with segmental arch.
Interior: unusual latticed wooden balustrade to staircase with hand rail sweeping up to the half-landing and top-landing newels.
