Details

RAYDON B1070 TM 03 NW (north side) 3/18 Layham Hall 22.2.55 (formerly listed as Masons Bridge Farmhouse) - II House. C16-C17, extensively renovated c1930. Timber-framed, part rendered, partly cased in painted brick. Plain tile roof, rebuilt red brick stacks. U-plan, internally remodelled C20. Ground floor close-studded, rough render above. C20 central gabled porch flanked by 3-light C20 mullion and transom windows. Further mullion windows to cross wings and 1st floor. Wood modillion eaves cornice, bargeboards to gabled cross wings. Off-centre ridge stack to hall range. Right cross wing return walls jettied. Rear: hall range modified by addition of 2 gables so rear forms balanced composition of 4 gables. Interior: right cross wing jettied internally indicating that the hall range is, in part at least, later in date and may have been increased in width at front. Beam with tongue stop, stone fireplace probably C20 reproduction. Rear room of left cross wing beamed ceiling. Jowled posts to 1st floor.
