NEWINGTON A329 SU6096 (West side) 15/42 Stable block and attached 18/07/63 gatepier approx. 60m. NE of Newington House (Formerly listed as Stables at Newington House)
GV II
Stables and coach house. Late C17/early C18. Coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings; old plain-tile roof. L-shaped plan. One storey plus loft. Stable range has 3 wide doorways and 4 windows, all with gauged-brick flat arches. Coach house range, returning to right, has a similar window between large entrances with brick Tudor arches, that to left C20. Each roof has 2 hipped roof dormers. Interior: some beams have ovolo mouldings. Brick gatepier, attached to coach house range, has moulded panelled sides and a stone cap and ball finial. It is mostly a late C19/early C20 re-building but retains some C17 work.
