TM 04 SE CHATTISHAM THE STREET 3/16 The Clayes - II House. Late C15 or early C16. Timber-framed, rendered, exposed first floor framing arch braced at the corners. Hipped thatched roof with wide oversailing eaves. 3 cell, 2 storeys. Scattered fenestration of replaced casements with leaded lights with central ground floor bay window of 4-lights. A single first floor window of 2-lights to right hand bay. Axial brick stack, the shaft C19. Interior: Late C16 and later stack. 4 centre arched doorhead to rear of stack. Blocked doorway to lower side of bay window. Rear ground and first floor mullion windows with shutter slides, that to centre bay of first floor-retaining its mullions. Heavy chamfered beam over stack. Early boarded doors with strap hinges. Formerly the beer house.
