DORCHESTER HIGH STREET SU5794 (East side) 5/47 Group of 3 chest tombs approx. 5m. to S of nave of Dorchester Abbey
GV II
3 chest tombs. One dated 1634 and two mid/late C18. Limestone. Pair nearest church have moulded plinths and covers, with fielded panels to the sides and ends. The westernmost also has a shield-shaped end panel commemorating Edward Wise, died 17(?). The earlier tomb has a deeply-projecting cover; chamfered on the underside, and the sides and one end have moulded recessed panels, with inset trefoiled arches and sunken spandrels. Rectangular inscription panel on end commemorates John Wise of Drayton (died 1634).
