3/20 The Old Rectory

- II 3 houses, formerly rectory. C16 with major alterations of several periods including remodelling c.1900. Hall range to right with original cross-wing; later extensions to left. Timber framed with much encasing and under-building in rendered masonry. The cross-wing has a jettied upper floor with exposed joist ends on carved brackets, and false half-timbering of c.1900. Plaintiled roof with bands of fishscale tiles and crested ridge tiles, prominent C19 dormers with false half-timbered gables and moulded wooden finials. Paired C19 mullioned and transomed windows. A slate-roofed splayed bay to right. C20 half-glazed entrance doors. A moulded 1st floor beam and other framing is exposed in the cross-wing, which was extended rearwards by 2 bays in late C16 or early C17. A small staircase wing to rear has a good late C17 staircase with moulded handrails, newels with acorn finials and turned balusters. The extensions to left are mainly of late C19, with possible earlier core.
