BURY ROAD (THE WALKS)
Gable End
GV
II
House. Mid C17 core: various early C19 additions and alterations. One-and-a-
half storeys. Timber framed, faced in C19 red brick, with plastered gable
walls and C20 pantiled roof. An internal chimney-stack with plain red brick
shaft. C20 casement windows: 2 gabled dormers. C20 enclosed gabled porch.
The house is set sideways-on to the road, and aligned north-south, with a 2-
storey red brick wing extending from the west side, and a single-storey lean-
to along the east side. It has a complex development, and was probably
originally single-storey throughout. The gable ends shown signs of an
earlier, lower rafter line, and the present roof-timbers and ceiling joists
are of circa 1800. The internal stack is also apparently an insertion, since
the frame has no chimney-bay. Included for Group Value.
