CHUTE CHUTE STANDEN SU 35 SW 10/77 The Dower House (formerly listed as Chute Standen Farmhouse) 4.6.52 II
Farmhouse, now house. Early C17, mid C18, and extensively remodelled early C19. Flemish bond brickwork with tiled roof. Two storeys, south front of 4 bays, with return at left end, continued in single storey structure containing main entrance. Original structure within east bay, a chalkstone stack with three brick diagonal shafts. Fourth bay C18, flint with brick dressings, and plat band. Bays 1 and 2 and 2-bay return at left end all c1800. Twenty-paned sash windows with gauged brick lintels and keystones. Canted entrance on bay 4 added c1915. Present entrance in link block to garage, formerly coach house. Interior: East end bedroom on first floor has mid C18 fire surround. Some panelled doors. Stack has C20 fire surrounds, and stair altered, probably c1915.
