BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9237 LOW ROAD, Manthorpe 1315-0/11/135 (South East side) 21/09/79 Old Reading Room Formerly Listed as: LOW ROAD, Manthorpe Former Reading Room) II
Former village reading room, now a house. Mid C19, converted and altered late C20. Coursed squared stone with ashlar and brick dressings and pantile roof with plain brick side wall stack. Tudor Revival style. Single storey with inserted attic; 3 window range. Facing gable with crowstepped coping and spike finial has a large 3-light window with chamfered stone mullions and 18-pane sashes. Above it, a slit breather. Right return has 3 renewed round arched glazing bar windows, the central one flanked by small single light windows. Above, a C20 gabled dormer. To right, a reglazed porch with a coped gross-gable. A recreational building provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
