GV II
Uniform terrace of 4 houses. Early C19. Solid rendered fronts. Slated roofs. Rendered chimney on left side wall of each house; the middle 2 chimneys have bracketed cornices. 3 storeys. Each house 2 windows wide with doorway to right. Round-arched doorways, those at Nos 36-40 with rusticated surrounds and bearded mask keystones (a notable feature); rustications vermiculated at Nos 36 & 38; panelled reveals at Nos 36-40; fanlights with radial bars at Nos 36 & 40. No.42 has a plain, stepped surround with foliated keystone. Windows have been considerably altered, but Nos 36 & 42 retain original sashes in upper storeys, now with 2 upright glazing bars per sash. Broad sill-band in second storey. Deep, plain eaves-cornice. Subsidiary features: in front of each house is a raised terrace, with an original iron railing having lily-heads to the uprights; the front centre railing at No.42 is missing. At the front of the flight of steps leading up to each house is a small round-arched recess designed for a shoe scraper.
