GV II

Country house now offices. Rebuilt 1766-1772, slightly
remodelled and extended mid C19. Local rubble with some
granite quoins and granite sills. Double-depth plan,
originally with 2 single-storey wings, the left-hand wing
heightened when house extended mid C19. 3 storeys; symmetrical
5-window front plus flanking 1-window bays with round-arched
recessed panels. Original 12-pane hornless sashes. Central
doorway with original traceried fanlight over glazed and
panelled door; Tuscan porch. Rear has most of its original
sashes. Left of the house is an excavated area of the old
priory. INTERIOR: open-well staircase with closed string,
column-over-vase turned balusters and ramped mahogany handrail
scrolled over newel; some panelled doors and window shutters
with fielded panels; some moulded ceiling cornices including
ceiling with dentils to 1st floor right; some panelled
reveals; moulded arch between entrance and stair hall on
panelled pilasters and at least 2 chimneypieces with eared
architraves. Probably mid C19: panelling and moulded
architraves to right-hand wing. Dated from engraving of house.
