College for 13 chantry priests attached to the Trinity Guild. Founded 1500 by Thomas Thoresby, built 1508-11. Various alterations and additions. Restored 1963-64 and converted to flats and offices. Brick with plain tiled roofs. Quadrangular plan. EAST RANGE facade: 2 storeys and dormer attic in 11 irregular bays. 3 Perpendicular moulded stone doorways with arched heads in square surrounds. Centre doorway has original timber door with tracery decoration and a smaller, pedestrian door within it. Ground floor has 8 late C18 sashes with glazing bars and painted gauged skewback arches. First floor lit through 9 similar sashes. Gabled roof behind low early C18 parapet on which stand 5 gables, each with a 3-light cross casement. Centre gable is shaped, others are Dutch. COURT SIDE is 2 storeys and dormer attic Rendered. Central basket archway. 3 sashes each side, with glazing bars. Five 2-light cross casements to first floor. 5 gabled dormers in roof. SOUTH RANGE facade to College Lane: generally of 2 storeys and dormer attic Gabled roofs. Immediately west of gable end to main facade is a unified length with C20 windows to ground floor and a square-headed carriage arch. Renewed moulded 2-light casements to first floor. 5 sloping dormers in roof. West end mostly of 3 storeys, mainly C20 details. COURT SIDE is 2 storeys and dormer attic Carriage entrance emerges left of centre. Above it and to right is a 5-light mullioned window. Scattered fenestration of mullioned variety elsewhere. 8 sloping dormers in roof. WEST RANGE facade to South Quay: Pantiled gabled roof. 2 storeys and dormer attic Irregular bay system. Scattered fenestration, mainly mullioned windows or cross casements. 6 sloping dormers in roof. COURT SIDE is similar. Renewed 2-light casements are the usual. This range is the hall range. NORTH RANGE: north side abutted by adjoining buildings. COURT SIDE is polite C18 facade. Rendered. Asymmetrical. Central door within timber case under open pediment. 3 sashes left, with glazing bars and 2 right. Round-headed sash over door. 3 sashes to left as before, one tripartite sash to right. Gabled roof with 4 gabled dormers. INTERIOR. West range with floored hall. Roof of false hammerbeams on arched braces dropping on wall posts to corbels. Collars on arched braces. Principals moulded. 2 tiers butt purlins.
