4ive terraced houses, now with ground-floor shops. 1828-1829; altered shopfronts mid to late C19. By William Chadwell Mylne, Surveyor for the New River Estate. Multi-coloured stock brick set in Flemish bond with stucco dressings; artificial (no. 57) and Welsh (no. 59) slate Mansard roofs with dormers; artificial slate gabled roof with dormer to no. 63; asphalt hipped roof to no. 65, party-wall brick stacks. Ground-floor shops; side-hall entrance plan leads to domestic space above. Three storeys with basement except no. 61 (four storeys); 2 windows each. House entrance to right (no. 65 with house entrance to right-hand return wall in Great Percy Street): plain doorway with overlight (some patterned) and original pair of panelled doors to no. 65 in return wall. Nos. 57-61 with two and three bay shopfronts to left of house door. No. 61 in most original condition: central original shop door in deep recess flanked by glazed shop windows; windows with moulded surrounds and panels below; pilasters with elaborate console brackets carrying entablature with projecting dentiled cornice (fascia obscured by C20 sign); fine original iron railings to perimeter of basement openings in pavement in front of flanking shop windows. Others have been partially altered but include many original features such as bow window and iron area railings to no. 57; most shopfronts articulated by console bracketed pilasters and with fascias and cornices. No. 65 has extensively altered corner shopfront faced in tiles. Gauged-brick flat arches with 6/6 sashes to upper floors; 1st floor stucco sill band beneath full-length sashes set in arched brick recesses with individual cast-iron balconies to nos. 61 and 65. Some rebuilding to upper floors. Plain brick parapet with stone coping to nos. 57-63; no. 65 with plain stucco band beneath altered stucco cornice with blocking course.
