Detached house. 1850-2. Yellow brick with red brick dressings to windows and arrises, roof of slate. The house is in an Italianate rustic style. Two storeys.The street front reads as two gables, the eastern one coming forward, with a single-storey porch in the angle. Ground-floor windows flat-arched, with unusual rectilinear cornices on brackets set above the window-opening, and linking band at cornice level; porch with pilasters and hipped roof. First-floor windows round-arched with aprons of red brick. Gables with projecting purlins, the upper part of the western gable breaking forward. Three stacks with stucco bands and, except on the northernmost, bold cornices. Nos 38, 40-42 and 44 form a distinct and varied group of Italianate designs. (Eric Willatts: Streets with a story.
