GV II
Terraced house, now offices. 1788. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond with Coade stone dressings, roof obscured by parapet. Four storeys, two-window range. Steps up to round-arched entrance with vermiculated quoins, fluted impost and head keystone, all probably in Coade stone; panelled reveals to doorway, doorcase with pilasters, cornice, fanlight and panelled door of original design; segmental-arched carriage entrance to right side with head keystone, also probably of Coade stone, and festooned spandrels; cornice. Upper windows flat-arched with gauged brick heads; moulded brick cornice; parapet. Cast-iron railings to steps. The interior has a staircase with wreathed and ramped handrail, stick balusters and open string. The ceiling of the first-floor front room has five roundel paintings, depicting Architecture, Music, Painting and Sculpture, probably by the elder Thomas Stowers, landscape painter, who lived at 22 Charterhouse Square from 1788 until at least 1811.
