Terraced houses, now offices. Following refurbishment as
offices by Graham Moss Associates in 1989, no. 326 consists of
three elements: (1) the former nos 320-324, to the east,
originally a group of three houses dated in a pedimented panel
to the parapet inscribed '18 COTTAGE PLACE 45'; (2) the former
no.326, an early C19 three-bay villa possibly originally
detached but linked to nos 320-324 by a single recessed bay;
and (3) a western wing with segmental carriage-arch added
during refurbishment. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco
dressings, roofs of artificial slate so far as visible. The
east wing four storeys over basement, six-window range; the
central block three storeys over basement, three-window range
to the main front; the west wing three storeys, four-window
range. Basement to east and central block stucccoed. East wing
has two remaining segmental-arched entrances with gauged brick
heads to City Road, the doorcase set in a segmental-arched
recess; overlights and panelled doors; ground-floor windows
also segmental-arched with gauged brick heads and set in a
segmental-arched recess; first-floor windows round-arched with
gauged brick heads and set in a round-arched recess;
second-floor windows flat-arched with gauged brick heads; the
return to Hall Street has a three-window range, the outer
windows blank, and the profiles matching the City Road front.
Moulded stucco cornice with parapet and central date plaque.
Mansard roof with dormers; stacks to former party walls.
The central block is double-fronted, with steps up to the
flat-arched entrance with pilasters and cornice on double
consoles, the doorcase with pilaster jambs and cornice,
overlight and double panelled doors; two-storey segmental bow
windows to either side with tripartite windows to both floors,
flat-arched with gauged brick heads, and cornice to first
floor; central flat-arched first-floor window with pediment on
consoles. Dentil cornice and blocking course. Mansard roof
with dormers. A pair of recumbent dogs on either side of the
entrance, and stone balustrade to the area. Rear elevation has
a central segmental two-storey bow with flat-arched windows,
all of 1989.
