Former office buildings of the London Salvage Corps, now
offices. 1884-5. Designed by William Wimble. Gauged red brick
with dressings probably of terracotta but now painted, and of
glazed and blue brick, roof obscured by parapet. Three
storeys, four-window range. All openings flat-arched.
Ground-floor has plinth of blue brick and then brown glazed
brick to about eight feet high, then gauged red brick and
terracotta; four pilasters supporting entablature. Entrance to
right, then window, then broad entrance for fire engines to
left; late C20 glazing to all ground-floor openings. Upper
windows grouped in pairs with the window head cut back in an
ogee profile, fluted keystone, sill band, aprons; in addition
the first floor windows have a broad springing band of
terracotta decorated with festoons and Japanese disks; and
there are terracotta panels of sunflowers between the groups
of windows on the second floor; storey bands run across the
heads of the keystones; dentil cornice; parapet with 'LONDON
SALVAGE CORPS' incised between rosette ornaments.
