SD3627SE BANNISTER STREET, Lytham 621-1/6/10 (West side) Former Sunday School to Lytham United Reformed Church

GV II

Congregational Sunday School, now meeting room. 1861-2, by W.F.Poulton of Reading (with later addition). Rock-faced yellow sandstone with some red sandstone dressings, north gable and west side of red brick, slate roof with fishscale bands. Rectangular single-cell plan with small parallel porch at south-east corner and annex on west side. Early English style. Gabled porch has 2-centred arched doorway in north side (matching those of the church), with moulded surround including nailhead band, and polychrome extrados band (the ends intersecting and run out to the gable coping). The east side has 3 cusped 2-centred arched windows with polychrome extrados bands. The south gable wall has 3 stepped cusped lancets, and a 2 bay continuation beyond, with a parapet. The north gable wall has 3 stepped lancets (and extension). INTERIOR altered (now containing a small stage). With Lytham United Reformed Church (q.v.), forms part of a complete set; and part of group which includes Police Station (q.v.) and Library (q.v.) opposite.
