Lodge to municipal cemetery. Probably 1884. MATERIALS: coursed squared stone with ashlar plinth and dressings and rock faced quoins. Lakeland slate roof, graduated in part, with stone gable copings and pierced dark grey terracotta ridge cresting. PLAN: irregular. EXTERIOR: Gothic Revival style. Single storey plus attic. 3 windows. Raised dripmould over Tudor-arched boarded door in steeply gabled porch to left of central bay. Central bay projects under gable and has canted ground-floor bay with stone mullions to 2 lights with trefoil tracery, and stone hipped roof. 3 shouldered lights above with sloping stone sills, and small slit in gable peak. Wide side buttresses to left of door and to right of central bay unite the two in one projection under 2 gables. At left, 3 trefoil heads and relieving arch to ground-floor window in ashlar surround with alternate block jambs, and 2-light window with pointed heads in gabled dormer breaking eaves. Right bay is set back further with similar windows and with pointed-arched boarded door with elaborate wrought-iron hinges, in moulded surround at left. Steeply pitched roof with ashlar peaks and fleur-de-lys finials. Right set back bay has roof slightly higher, and of graduated slate, with stubby right end chimney. Left part has tall stone-coped chimney at rear. Tall chimney rises from eaves of right return of entrance projection. Chimney pots all short, square and grey, possibly stone.
