GV II

School, now 2 dwellings. Probably late C17 or early C18; altered in C18 and C19. Coursed squared sandstone, stone slate roof with some composition tiles. T-plan formed by main range on east-west axis with wing to centre of south side. Two storeys with a 4-bay north facade; a 1st-floor band carried round, and coped gables which have the stumps of apex and kneeler finials. The principal distinctive features are large, almost semicircular arched mullion-and-transom windows: one at each end of the north side, which also has C20 (or restored) coupled cross-windows in the centre, a 2-light mullioned window under a gablet above these, and a gabled porch at the west end with a small 2-light window above; a similarly arched 8-light window at ground floor of the east gable and a 6-light mullion-and-transom window above; a similarly arched 6-light window at 1st floor of the gable of the south wing, which has a 3-light mullioned window at ground floor; and another arched 6-light window at ground floor of the bay beyond, which has a 3-light mullioned window under a gablet at 1st floor. In addition, the east angle of the wing has a C20 glazed porch to an inserted doorway, the east side of the wing has a 3-light mullioned window at ground floor and a chamfered one-light window and a square sunk panel at 1st floor, and its west side has a wooden lean-to porch at ground floor and a one-light window above. Two ridge chimneys and gable chimney at west end. Forms group with The Old school House (q.v.) now linked to the west end.
