House. C17, C18 and C19 in various builds and variously altered and remodelled. Roughcast render on stone and probably some brick, with stone slate roofs. Irregular triple-pile plan formed by a small C17 element to the rear with additions in front and to the right. Two storeys, with a facade of 3:1:1 windows, the 1-window bays being successive additions. Before the additions the facade was probably symmetrical, but the entrance is now in the 3rd bay, with a canted stone porch which has 3 steps up to a panelled door with overlight, and a moulded cornice with blocking course; to the left of this are 2 segmental-headed 12-pane unhorned sashed windows with exposed boxes, and at 1st floor 3 similar sashed windows. The 4th and 5th bays are each slightly set back, the former having French windows at ground floor and a 16-pane unhorned sashed window and the latter a canted bay and a 12-pane sash. Gable chimneys and 2 ridge chimneys. Various back extensions with altered windows. INTERIOR: C17 chamfered beam in back range; front range remodelled and C17-style staircase installed in early C20. HISTORY: said to have been Lathom estate manager's house, enlarged and remodelled for occupation by 3rd Earl of Lathom.
