SD40NW LADY ALICE'S DRIVE 663-1/4/72 (South side) Wash-house building approx. 3m SE of Needless Inn Farmhouse

GV II

Wash-house building with integral privy and store. Probably later C18 or early C19; slightly altered. Handmade brick in English garden wall bond (3+1), stone slate roof. Square plan on east-west axis, partitioned one third from east end, with privy and store to rear of this partition. Single storey with a gabled front wall which has a doorway to the left and 2-light sliding sash window next to this under linked lintels, and a smaller 2-light sliding sash window to the right, with glazing bars. Four-flue ridge chimney stack rising from internal partition. The south side has a doorway in the centre and another at the right-hand end (to the privy); the rear has a doorway to the store (now covered by shed roof). INTERIOR: contains cast-iron pump drawing water from well in yard; and a large rectangular fireplace flanked by washing boilers. Unusually complete and intact example of its type.
