Shops and dwellings. Late C18. Stucco; slate roof to front, plain tiles to rear; brick end stacks (rendered to right). E-shaped plan. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, attic and cellar; 4-window range: to left, 2 late C19, 2/2 sashes; to right, mid C19 margin-glazed 4/4 sashes; moulded stucco architraves with consoles to sills; brick modillion eaves. Central entrance to passageway (to Leicester Place), with C20 wrought-iron grille, and beaded door frame, under segmental arch. Two C19 shop fronts with central C20 doors, and overlights (margin-glazed to right), between plate glass windows with moulded glazing shafts; moulded fascia boards and hoods on plain pilasters. Returned sides: stucco with lights to 2nd floors and attics. INTERIOR: No.28: C18 open-well staircase with moulded rail and turned balusters, to 2nd floor. 1st floor: C18 cabinet and cupboard; late C18 bolection moulded fire surround with C19 grate; two C18, 7-panel doors to wall cupboards. Cellar: stone-lined with some massive masonry to stack bases; raised moulded beam. No.29: C18 open-well staircase with turned balusters to 2nd floor. 1st floor: C19 fireplace and overmantel; C19 wall cupboards and 2-panel door; C18, 2-panel door; 4-panel door. Ground floor: C19 fire surround; rear: plank door; late C19 fireplace and overmantel. Cellar: massive masonry to stack base; stone and brick-lined; C17 chamfered ceiling beams and fireplace. Plaque commemorates Roger Kemble (father of John Philip Kemble and Sarah Siddons). (RCHME).
