Probably a farmhouse, now divided into 2 cottages. Dated 1703
at 1st floor, but said to contain earlier timber-framed
fabric; altered and renovated. White-painted roughcast on
brick, slate roof. Single-depth plan with added back
extensions to both parts. Two low storeys, 4 widely-spaced
windows. The ground floor has segmental-headed 16-pane
unhorned sashed windows, the 1st floor has 2-light horizontal
sliding sashed windows with 9 panes in each leaf of those to
the left and 6 panes in each leaf of those to the right, and
between the 3rd and 4th of these a square datestone with
moulded surround and sunk panel inscribed:
G. W A. 1703. (= William Arthur Grice, who leased the property
in 1703). Rear 1st floor of No.86 has a 3-light casement with
the double-chamfered reveal of a former 3-light mullioned
window.
