GV II
House. Early C18, extended in C20. Timber-framed, weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red clay tiles, plain and scalloped. Main range facing NE with central stack, originally forming a lobby-entrance plan. C20 large 2-storey cross-wing to right, extending slightly forwards of main range and far to the rear. C20 2-storey wing to rear left, single-storey extension to right of it, forming a catslide with the main roof, and C20 single-storey extension to left of it. 2 storeys and attics. Ground floor, two C20 casements, and another in place of the former central entrance. First floor, 2 similar casements. Gambrel roof, with horizontal bands of scalloped tiles, plain tiles above and below. The original building has a symmetrical elevation. Entrance in right extension. INTERIOR: each ground-floor room has a chamfered transverse beam with lamb's tongue stops, joists plastered to the soffits. The left room has a simple moulded fireplace, blocked, and an original ledged and boarded door. The right room has a C20 grate in the original wood-burning hearth, the mantel beam pecked to key the former plaster, and an original ledged and boarded door with shaped wooden handle. Each first-floor room has an original moulded 3-plank door; the right room has an early C19 cast-iron ducknest grate. Original winder stair from first floor to attic, lower flight missing. The 1974 listing states that this house dates from enclosure of the land in 1736.
