Part of house, now a house. Late C17, extended in C18 and C19. Timber-framed, weatherboarded and plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Main range of 2 bays facing SW, with axial stack at right end, being part of a house originally extending further to the right, the remainder now No.25 (qv), late C17. Parallel range to rear, C18, and small single-storey extension to rear right. Double-range extension to left, of one bay, higher in both storeys than the remainder, with central stack, c1800. 2 storeys and attic. The left part has a 2-storey splayed bay with on the ground floor sashes of 4+4, 6+6 and 4+4 lights, and on the first floor sashes of 4+2, 6+3 and 4+2 lights, c1800. The right part has a 2-storey splayed bay with on each floor sashes of 4+4, 6+6 and 4+4 lights, and on the ground floor an additional sash of 2+2 lights to each side, in the main wall. Approximately central half-glazed door with marginal lights, wooden doorcase with Ionic pilasters, and fretted frieze in the Chinese taste; later flat canopy on chamfered wooden posts. Early C19 casement in hipped dormer. The rear elevation of the taller part has on the ground floor an usually large horizontal sash of 4+4 lights, and on the first floor a sash of 6+6 lights, both c1800. The remainder has on the first floor an early C19 sash of 8+8 lights, C19 casements elsewhere. Much handmade glass in front and rear windows. Roof of rear right range hipped at right end. Pump of c1800 attached to left side of rear extension, with embossed scrolls and paterae on lead cistern, lead spout supported by 2 twisted wrought-iron stays, rat-tail handle with knob, mechanism complete but not in working order, wooden case. INTERIOR: both splayed bays and one first-floor rear sash have original vertically sliding internal shutters, the latter perforated with a heart, not in working order. Straight stair, c1800, with pine handrail and stick balusters, the balustrade forming a U on plan at the top. The front left ground-floor room has a frieze in Adam style; at rear right an arched recess with fluted pilasters and paterae. The room above has at rear right an original cupboard with panelled doors on HL hinges, and at rear left original closet doors on cockshead hinges. The front right ground-floor room has a chamfered transverse beam with long lamb's tongue stops, and exposed plain joists; wide wood-burning hearth with seat recess in right jamb. The room above has an early/mid-C19 cast-iron grate. Clasped purlin roof. This house retains many external and internal features of c1800, meriting careful conservation.
