GV II

House. c1600 and C18. Timber-framed, pebble dashed, peg-tiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3 window range, sashes, some horned, central C20 gabled brick porch. Gable to W with flanking major chimney-stack and minor stack to E. Plan comprises gabled c1600 cross-wing to W and C18 block, much rebuilt after 1939-45 war bombing, to E. Stair tower, c1600 bridging 2 blocks rising from original main range. INTERIOR: lamb's tongue stops on principal and bridging joists of ground floor ceiling, double ovolo moulding of plaster surround of 4 centred arched fireplace restored C20 and roses added in spandrels. Shaped newel post at top of tower stair and 2 shadow planed boarded doors on first floor. Front upper chamber of cross-wing has an original framed closet projecting from the flank wall adjacent to stack, possibly garderobe. Framing of cross-wing stiffened by exterior tension braces on `prick post' at rear. C20 extension to rear projecting to E with casement windows. Little Beacon Hill Farmhouse forms a group with the barn (qv).
