GV II

Large house, later hotel, now flats. Late C18, with various C19 and C20 modernisations. Stone rubble with stucco front; brick end stacks with plastered chimneyshafts; slate roof. PLAN: Double-depth, 2 rooms wide, with central entrance hall. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attics; symmetrical 5-window front, with stucco lightly blocked out as ashlar. Central doorway up 4 stone steps contains original 6-panel door (now part-glazed) with stucco Tuscan doorcase, engaged columns to the entablature. Either side paired 12-pane sashes. Plat band at first-floor level. First floor has late C19/early C20 windows; central horned sash without glazing bars flanked by large canted bays containing similar sash windows with panelled bases and hipped roofs. Second floor has 5 small horned 4-pane sashes. Good modillion eaves cornice. Parapet reduced for 3 large C20 dormer windows (more to rear). Gable-ended roof. INTERIOR: Not inspected but noted as having C19 joinery and cornicing.
